You’ve been working out on a regular basis and you are finally starting to, not only see the difference, but you’re really feeling the difference too! But then you learn you have to travel out of town! After the initial response of delight and amusement, your brain kicks in; You realize you will have to workout away from home if you don’t want all that hard work to go to waste!

Stay Committed to Your Diet

Remember how far you’ve come with your fitness journey. Do you want to risk giving that all up because of an out of town work meeting? Or because you can’t miss your cousins Jessica’s third wedding? NO! This is what separates the winners from the losers. When we go out of town, we are away from our home kitchen. Our personal cooking space, which often leads us to over indulging on fast food options. When you go out to eat, which will probably be more often than you’d like, remember to be strong and try to incorporate good protein and veggies. Pass on the beer and stick to water when you can. A few other things that will help tide your hunger over are:

  • Nutritional Bars
  • Trail Mix
  • A bunch of Bananas
  • Small jar of Peanut Butter

Take Your Own Cardio Fueled Tour of the City

For some of us, going on a run around town is the last thing we want to do, however, being in a new city with new sites is always inspiring! If you have 30 minutes to spare you can always throw on your gym clothes and hit the town for your own personal tour. While running or even walking around a new city can be extremely exciting, make sure you know where you are going! The last thing you’ll want to do is get lost while you workout away from home.

Have Fun with the Locals

Exploring a new place is always a great time, especially when you get to take in all the local favorite spots. While some of these spots may be local breweries or restaurants, others will be parks, lakes, and hiking trails. Ask around and observe what all the locals are doing for fun, outdoor activities. You’ll be sure to get your heart rate up on a paddle board trip up and down the river or a bike ride through a park.

Look Up Local Gyms

If you’re wanting to get a serious workout in while you’re away from home, you’ll want to look up some local gyms in the area. Some chain fitness clubs will allow distant members to workout away from home at their local gym while others won’t. Check with your gym before you head out of town to see if they have any affiliates in the area and their exact rules. If not, you can always sign up for a trial pass at another local gym! If you are a frequent traveler, especially for repeat business, it’s extremely beneficial to sign up for a gym membership in that area so you don’t let all that hard work go to waste.

Working out away from home is a great way to keep yourself from being bored, wrapped up in a hotel room, ordering room service. It really shows your commitment to your overall health and fitness too!
